Bridges are often a good option for replacing a missing tooth. Bridges essentially consist of a replacement tooth which rests on the gum while being permanently anchored to the teeth on either side.

Bridges can be made from a number of materials, most commonly porcelain, gold, and porcelain-fused-to-metal. The process of placing the bridge involves two visits. During the first visit, the teeth are prepared so the bridge will fit over it, an impression or mold is taken, and a temporary bridge is placed. The impression is then sent to the dental laboratory for fabrication. The final product is ready two to three weeks later. The second visit involves lifting off the temporary bridge and placing the permanent restoration with a dental adhesive material which holds it strongly to the underlying teeth, allowing you to function as you would with a regular, healthy smile.
