One of the best and simple ways to help protect yourself from gum disease is by flossing daily.
Gingivitis eventually leads to gum disease. Symptoms of gingivitis include bleeding gums during brushing and flossing, chronic bad breath, and red or inflamed gums
Regularly flossing between the teeth as well as the gum line effectively removes plaque and food particles before they can form tartar.
When flossing, be aware it’s more than just going back and forth between the teeth with the floss. Practice properly flossing by tying each end of the string to your middle fingers. Then grab a small part of the floss between the thumb and index fingers and use them to work the floss in a U-Shape around the tooth. Gently clean the space between your tooth and the gumline. Also, make sure that you floss behind your back teeth.
