Your braces represent a significant investment in resolving alignment issues and providing you with an appealing smile. Even though your braces are designed for durability, they can still be damaged by certain activities, foods and lifestyle choices. If your braces are damaged it can increase the amount of time you have to wear them.

If something breaks or comes loose, you should call us as soon as possible, so we can give you advice on how to mitigate the problem or schedule an appointment to fix it.

If you can’t immediately contact us there are a few things you can do to help mitigate potential problems. When you were first fitted with your braces the orthodontist gave you a special piece of orthodontic wax. If a wire or bracket comes loose and is irritating your cheek or gums you can secure it inside the wax. In a pinch you could also secure the damaged hardware in a pencil eraser.

It’s not uncommon for a spacers to fall out if you are due for an adjustment. If one of the metal bands comes loose don’t try to put it back on. Call us as soon as possible and we’ll be able to determine if it needs to be cemented back on immediately or if it can wait until your next adjustment appointment.
